Every six minutes, electricity and electrical appliances are the cause of fire in Germany. Around 40 percent of all companies affected by a fire cease operations. This is exactly where we come in with our AMFE preventive fire protection solution.
AMFE stands for Automatic Miniature Fire Extinguishing Unit. It is categorised as a small extinguishing device, or small extinguishing system. Its great advantage lies in fire detection and simultaneous fire extinction directly at the point of origin, e.g. a control cabinet or server cabinet. The VdS approval means that the AMFE can be used without hesitation in all electrical distribution boards, and is easily recognised by your property insurer / building authority.
The thermoglass sprinkler bulb integrated in the attached trigger head breaks when a defined trigger temperature is exceeded, activating a spring mechanism which releases the cylinder with the extinguishing agent.
As this is a mechanical release, no power supply or control system is required.
We will be happy to design the right one for you. The AMFE is available in the following standard temperatures:
Other temperatures are possible on request
The design is based on the max. ambient temperature. (max. ambient temperature + 25° safety => tripping temperature)
The AMFE is available in the following product variants:
Design according to guideline VdS 2381
Class A fire => design concentration 5.8%
Class B fire => design concentration 6.1%
Size | Protection volume for Class A fire (5.8% according to VdS guideline 2381) | Size Diameter / length (mm) | Extinguishing agent min. content (ml) |
---|---|---|---|
0 | 0.046 m³ = 46 litres | 22 x 133 | 24 |
1 | 0.137 m³ = 137 litres | 35 x 149 | 72 |
2 | 0.229 m³ = 229 litres | 40 x 179 | 120 |
3 | 0.459 m³ = 459 litres | 50.8 x 226 | 241 |
4 | 0.686 m³ = 686 litres | 50.8 x 311 | 360 |

The extinguishing agent FK-5-1-12, also known by the brand name of Novec™ 1230, removes the heat from the fire, and stopping the combustion reaction. It is stored in a liquid state; the extinguishing agent only changes to a gaseous state as it escapes from the extinguishing nozzles (from approx. 50°C). As a result, it usually extinguishes even concealed sources of fire immediately.
In contrast to water, foam, or powder extinguishing agents, FK-5-1-12 (clean agent) virtually excludes secondary damage. It is neither corrosive nor electrically conductive*, leaves no residue, and can easily be removed from the room by ventilation.
Compared to other gaseous chemical extinguishing agents, FK-5-1-12 (clean agent) has the best environmental properties. It poses no danger to the ozone layer and its very low global warming potential is negligible. It decomposes completely within just five days.
*The dielectric strength of FK-5-1-12 in the gaseous state under saturated conditions at 1 atm, 21°C, over an electrode gap of 2.7 mm is 16 kV, which corresponds to 2.3 times the value of dry nitrogen. The dielectric strength of liquid FK-5-1-12 under the same conditions is 48 kV.
The AMFE must be replaced no later than 10 years after commissioning.
The AMFE must be installed in the upper third of the switch cabinet in a vertical position.
Please also make sure that the base of the switch cabinet is closed.
Our information sticker is attached to the outside of the switch cabinet indication that you are protected.
In general, the AMFE also works in enclosures that are actively ventilated. Normally, the air flow even accelerates the incubation and distribution of the extinguishing medium. The S-AMFE is used for large ventilation or extraction systems in switch cabinets. The S feedback contact allows the ventilation systems to be switched off immediately when triggered.
Naturally. By using a smoke detector with a signal output (potential-free contact), the R-AMFE can be triggered remotely in the event of a smouldering fire. This means that the fire is recognised and proactive flooding/fire extinction can take effect. Take a look at our multialert® range.
For large volumes from 1.15 m³, we use the R-AMFE in cascade, monitored and controlled by our special multialert® solution. Alternatively, control cabinets can be separated from each other so that only individual areas are monitored and fires extinguished. If you have any questions about such special use cases, please contact us, and we will work with you to plan the best solution.
The pressure cylinders have a pressure resistance of 10 years according to the directive. According to the manufacturer and in accordance with the UL2166 standard, a loss of approximately 0.25% of the specified filling weight per year after the date of manufacture is considered to be in accordance with the intended use. We recommend a visual inspection of the AMFE once a year, as well as checking the filling weight of the extinguishing agent cylinder.
In the case of the VdS AMFE with pressure monitoring, inspection is limited to an annual visual inspection of the pressure gauge and the thermoglass bulb during normal use. If the VdS AMFE is used as a registered VdS product, the maintenance guidelines of the respective valid VdS guideline apply.
Yes, the AMFE has been VdS-approved since 2022; it is listed under the approval number G622002. The VdS certificate is available for download here.
Many insurance companies offer attractive benefits for preventive fire protection measures. These range from discounted premiums to higher amounts of cover when settling claims in the event of a fire. Investing in fire protection at an early stage not only protects your property but can also make your finances considerably easier. We can tell you whether your insurance company runs such benefit schemes. Just contact us!
Yes, the AMFE can be shipped by air and sea freight both as a product itself and as an installed fire extinguishing unit for fire protection of the freight.
